Tommy to grow Aagaard’s business in the UK
Aagaard wants to strengthen its presence in the UK market. That task has been entrusted to Tommy Thompson, who since joining Nederman nine months ago has been working to open new doors and bring Aagaard’s solutions into more UK projects.
When Tommy Thompson joined Nederman nine months ago, Aagaard’s product portfolio became a key part of his sales responsibilities.
Aagaard is part of the Nederman Group, and Tommy’s role is to develop the Danish company’s position in the UK market.
His first few months have been spent getting to know the products and the organisation, as well as mapping the market and speaking with customers, OEMs and partners.
Now, that knowledge needs to be turned into business.
A multi-billion-pound market
One of the opportunities lies in the UK woodworking and furniture industry, which has traditionally been an important market for Aagaard’s solutions.
Total sales by UK furniture manufacturers reached around £10.3 billion in 2025, up from just under £9.9 billion the year before, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
This production creates a need for extraction systems as well as the conveying, handling and storage of dust, shavings and wood chips – all areas in which Aagaard provides solutions.
Biomass is another market with potential. In 2024, biomass accounted for around 10 per cent of the UK’s total energy supply and 67 per cent of the country’s renewable heat, according to the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
For Tommy, the task is to identify the companies and projects where Aagaard’s solutions can be turned into tangible business opportunities.
Bringing a familiar name back into focus
Aagaard is not starting from scratch in the UK. According to Tommy, many experienced professionals in the British woodworking industry are already familiar with the company. The challenge is that awareness is not necessarily as strong among a new generation of engineers and decision-makers.
That makes visibility an important part of the sales effort.
Aagaard needs to be known not only by companies that have worked with its products in the past. The company also needs to get on the radar of new customers and businesses investing in production facilities.
Nederman opens up more opportunities
Being part of Nederman also gives Aagaard access to a larger organisation and a broader technical network.
The two companies have capabilities that both overlap and complement one another. This makes it possible to take a broader view of customers’ needs and become involved in projects where several parts of the production process need to be considered together.
When Tommy identifies an opportunity in the UK, he can therefore draw on Aagaard’s technical specialists in Hadsund as well as expertise from across the wider Nederman Group.
Turning opportunities into projects
After nine months, Tommy has gained a much stronger understanding of both Aagaard’s solutions and the UK market.
The focus now is on turning that knowledge into concrete projects.
That means more conversations with customers and partners, greater visibility for Aagaard, and more opportunities to bring the company’s solutions into UK production facilities.
